Oxidation treatment can make the hook spring have certain corrosion resistance.

After the hook spring is oxidized, a dense oxide film can be formed on the surface of the steel wire, which can prevent the corrosion of gunpowder gas.

Oxidation treatment can reduce the friction effect of the hook spring. During the shooting process, the hook spring is repeatedly stretched and compressed in the spring chamber, and at the same time it forms friction with the spring chamber and generates frictional heat, which is also one of the reasons for the early failure of the hook spring.

After the hook spring is oxidized, the tiny pores of the oxide film can store oil, which can lubricate the spring; the thermal conductivity of the oxide film is much lower than that of the hook spring steel wire, which has better thermal protection. It is also beneficial to prevent the early failure of the hook spring.

After the spring has been oxidized, through more than 40 life tests, the hook spring does not break. Practice has proved that oxidation treatment of the hook spring can improve its service life.
